OUR BELIEFS
At Riverside Porto International Church, we strive to maintain unity in the essentials, while extending grace in the non-essentials, and in everything showing love for those who may believe differently from ourselves.
We believe in the following essentials:
The Bible
We believe that the Bible, consisting of the Old and New Testaments, is the inspired Word of God. It is the final authority, without error, and applicable to our daily lives.
2 Timothy 3:16
God; Trinity
We believe in one God who exists in three Persons: God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit.
John 15:26
Jesus Christ
We believe that Jesus Christ is God’s only begotten Son, conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of a virgin. He is both fully man and fully God. According to the Scriptures, Christ died for our sins, was buried, and rose on the third day, taking the punishment we deserved to restore our relationship with God.
John 3:16; 1 Corinthians 15:3-4
The Holy Spirit
We believe that the Holy Spirit is the promised Comforter, sent to the Church after Jesus ascended to Heaven. He indwells all true believers, teaching and instructing them to fulfill Jesus' commission and live as faithful followers.
John 14:15-16
Mankind
We believe that mankind was created in the image of God. However, due to sinful disobedience, humanity became separated from God, and as a result, all people are now sinners. God regenerates those who repent and confess Jesus Christ as Lord, declaring them righteous, forgiving their sins, and restoring them to a right relationship with God.
Genesis 2:7–3:24
Redemption
We believe that it is God’s plan to offer redemption to all who accept the sacrifice of Jesus Christ on their behalf, restoring the relationship between humanity and God. Through Jesus Christ, believers possess spiritual authority, free from Satan's control. God forgives and adopts all who repent and confess Jesus as Lord, baptizing them with the Holy Spirit as a guarantee of their future inheritance.
Colossians 1:13-14
Salvation
We believe that salvation is obtained through repentance of sins and faith in the person and work of Jesus Christ. His sinless life makes us righteous before God, and His sacrificial death removes our sins, securing our eternal salvation. Salvation cannot be earned or purchased; it is a gift from God.
Ephesians 2:8-9
The Church
We believe that the Church is the living, spiritual body of Jesus Christ, of which Christ is the Head and all believers are members. The church is the instrument for extending His kingdom throughout the world.
Matthew 28:18-20
The Return
We believe that Jesus Christ will physically return to Earth to raise the dead, judge the world, and take His rightful place as King of His Kingdom on earth.
1 Thessalonians 4:16-17
Eternity
We believe that Heaven is the eternal destination for all who have placed their faith and hope in the person and work of Jesus Christ.
1 Peter 1:3-5
